This is an old one. A poem wrote many dark nights ago (okay, years ago) and just for fun I thought it may like to see the light of day. Notably, it’s a darker take on a line by Wordsworth, inspired in the first line I use.
The crawling darkness. JR Manawa.
darkness falling from the wings of night
staircases sprawling
spiralling out of sight
down below the surface of the earth
down deep, deeper than your skin
dancing gayly we follow
unbeknownst to us what lies within
the deepest dark
the most hurting hallows
the candles drip
fading now, we watch their hanging tallow
or lips a curse of death
let me kiss you
for nothing much be left
and falling now
I
watch
your
step
